Advancing paediatric surgery through education and research

Kasai Portoenterostomy

Kasai portoenterostomy is the classic operation for the condition of congenital biliary atresia and consists of excision of all extrahepatic bile duct remnants and the gallbladder then using a Roux loop of mobilised jejunum to anastomose to the denuded transected portal plate within the porta hepatis at the root of the liver. The operation is demonstrated by Prof. Mark Davenport, paediatric hepatobiliary surgeon at Kings College Hospital, London.
