Title: Consultant Paediatric Surgeon with Special Interest in Urology
Location: Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital (RACH)
Contract: 1 year locum initially with view to Substantive Appointment.
Hours: 40 hours per week (10 PA’s)
The successful applicant will join a dynamic team of 4 Consultant Paediatric Surgeons/Urologists based in the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital (RACH), within the Combined Child Health Service of NHS Grampian. He/she will be based at RACH and will provide a range of General Paediatric Surgical and Neonatal Services to children and young people living in Grampian and will also contribute to service delivery across the North of Scotland including Highland and the Shetland and Orkney Islands. They will work as part of a team of 5 Paediatric Surgeons contributing to the acute out of hours rota. A “surgeon of the week” system is planned to cover the daytime acute service. They will undertake clinics in General Paediatric Surgery and Urology in RACH and in peripheral hospitals.
The RACH has a total of 93 beds, providing specialist inpatient and outpatient care in Medical Paediatrics and its sub-specialities, General Paediatric Surgery and Urology, Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery, ENT, Dermatology, Orthodontics, Ophthalmology, Clinical Genetics and Child and Family Psychiatry.
There is an onsite Maternity Hospital and a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and, with the exception of cardiac surgery, a full range of Neonatal Surgery is provided.
RACH is a designated Paediatric Major Trauma Centre and has its own Emergency Department under direct Consultant supervision. There are approximately 8000 attendances annually of which two thirds are acute admissions.
The Medical Paediatric service is delivered by a total of 18 Medical Consultants, 10 Associate Specialists, 3 Speciality Doctors and 15 RCPCH trainees. The Department of Community Child Health is co-located within the RACH.
Applicants must hold the FRCS(Paed) or equivalent and be either on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT on the date of interview. An interest in Paediatric Urology is essential.
